Have a look at the commoners too

Dear Editor,

I was going through the reader’s forum and got to see a letter from Deewan Mara and it reminded me of the school that I have passed out from some years ago. Until now I hardly ever gave thought about the condition of the school as with time we grow too selfish to be bothered by petty things as such.

But now as I try and recall how my school looked like last time I saw it, it hurts a lot that the very school cannot be considered a Higher Secondary School and I think very soon it will fall apart.

We don’t need any new school when the only higher secondary school in the dist headquarter is in such condition.

I wonder how it catch the eyes of the dist administrations,  the so called student unions, the MLAs and most importantly the parents?

Till October this year there was no economics subject teacher in the school and the poor kids were without one for last 2 years.

And the condition was more or less the same in Dumporijo! Some of the students I have come across told me about the seating problem. Even if they want to attend they can’t as they have no place to sit and sometimes kids can’t even stand as there is no space.

Survival of fittest mantra works in there.

If these problems are not sorted out, very soon the school will crumble.

But honestly I don’t blame the nyigom babus or the student unions or the mlas or other powerful bodies of the district for the problem as they will never be interested in the problem as none of their kids or wards will ever be studying  in  government schools.

It high time poor and common people like us rise and assert pressure on these self behaving aristocrats as only our kids will be going to the school or the situation might become so acute that our kids or wards will have to go to Dumporijo, Ziro,Raga to study as most of us obviously won’t have enough money to send our kids to a private school.

It is not only the higher secondary that is in shambles in Daporijo. Even the middle school nearby is in no better condition. Of course the physical infrastructure is in much better condition but quality of education has gone down.

The main motto of the SSA was to improve the soft power of schools but it worked the other way round in places like Daporijo.

Sorry if I offend anyone. But its true and everyone knows the quality of teaching have deteriorated very badly. Most of the teachers are always in Itanagar or busy in some meetings.

Agreed people rich and powerful might never need to even have a look at the institution but it is only hope of the common and mass to see their kids in position like them  one day. So please be kind enough to help us.

Yours,

Aggrieved and deprived

Make way for all

Dear Editor,

This is in response to Tapan Chakroborty’s letter.

As an officer in Indian ordinance factory, I have travelled good part of India, meeting many people who have been associated with Arunachal. It is quite heartening to see that these people have fond memories of their past times and have compassionate attitude towards the state. However, rarely we also meet people who have bad memories – a short example: Poetic early autumn morning. Open railway platform in Delhi. A mid aged employee in engineer department in A.P, on way to back, repeatedly gazed at me as if to share his long pent-up feelings. I come near him, and over our short interaction, he said ‘ waha Bahut padesan hai… Bahut! …………..Kam aram se karne nahi deta.’

Social phase we are undergoing has role to play in creating story like this, I request Arunachalis to have balance handling of outsiders. State should welcome the guest but rehearsing a mechanism for proper handling of prospective situation like ‘ethnic flooding’ would help.

Secondly, Arunachal have good volume of children working outside. Many of these ‘sea turtles’ also have aspiration to come back & hatch some eggs but it is often difficult to find place at own home due to unfavourable environment for aspirant entrepreneurs and severe job crunch in job dependant state like ours. So, what remotely these people, some of whom are truly talented, can do as social contribution is to draw utmost self pride & satisfaction in merely representing and popularizing the state while depending all wrong home truth, at one’s little capacity.

Truly, we have recruitment boards, but there are certain grievances for distant residents – may I urge state govt. to make provision for calling back these so called, ‘sea turtles’ - Similar act had played big role in China’s early socio-economic transformation (at discretion, I may not be called Sea turtle) and govt. of India has recently taken up similar type of measures for rehabilitation of displaced abroad Indians in wake of global economic crises.

Back to initial point, I appreciate Chakroborty’s gesture. Apart from spiritual contribution like always talking good about A.P, he is most welcome to exercise his capability of other social contributions. Many times we may lack energy & initiatives to take benefit of your capacity & wills but you may kindly take your own actions as an act of looking for gods. At same time, I request all other capable well wishers of Arunachal to come forward with similar gestures. By the way, I too request business community in state to touch the Business principle of ‘make some social contribution & make some profit!’ as I have seen that pricing of many materials are often exorbitant which would be amounted to a slogan, ‘take more & give less!’ All the best!

Yours,

Soyum Potom
